Majored in Japanese literature in university; studied a course in Japanese language teaching. After graduating, went on to teach Japanese at an India Institute of Technology location. Came back to Japan and enrolled in a graduate school music course. Had the opportunity to teach beginner and intermediate level Japanese as well as Japanese cooking in both New Zealand and later on in Malaysia. After returning to Japan, began working at Coto while opening and operating a cooking class workshop focused on teaching foreign tourists and visitors to Japan from abroad about cooking Japanese food and making Japanese sweets.
A message from Nariko / Her Philosophy
In my lessons I focus on teaching students to be able to speak practical Japanese that can be used in real-world daily life. Conversation is not a 1-way street, but rather requires effort on both parts. This is why instead of mere question-and-answer style practice, I focus on facilitating good and full conversation practice. From how to start conversations to ending them – and even how to react – I aim to share my knowledge of how Japanese people speak and interact with each other in conversation.
