About the Sushi Making Workshop

This Japanese sushi making workshop is a great way to make friends while learning about Japanese cooking.  Join us for a fun lesson and time of conversation and eating together.

About Oshi Zushi

Oshi-zushi sushi is a type of “pressed” or “boxed” sushi that comes from the Kansai region of Japan – near Osaka.  In this workshop you will learn the basics of preparation of Oshi-zushi which can be a terrific way to entertain your out of town guests that are visiting you in Japan.

Oshi-zushi is one of the oldest forms of sushi and has its origins from necessity – when fishmongers would preserve raw fish by packing it tightly in boxes with fermented rice.

Today the boxes used to press the rice can be either wood or plastic – but the technique and flavor is the same as it was centuries ago.
